Bringing people together
for a better future
About us
We believe everyone can play a role in moving towards sustainability and we are determined to ensure South Bank and Waterloo is a place that sustains us.
To support this, we’ve developed a ‘whole-neighbourhood strategy’ as part of a collaboration between Lambeth Council, Southwark Council, SBEG, South Bank and Waterloo Neighbours (SoWN), WeAreWaterloo BID and South Bank BID, along with a range of other local stakeholders and community partners. The project has been enabled by the Mayor of London’s Future Neighbourhoods 2030 programme.
We are already helping local businesses, organisations and residents support the successful transition to Net Zero by 2030, making the entire neighbourhood a fairer and greener place to live, work and visit, now and for years to come.
Our vision
We want to create a fairer, greener neighbourhood for all. Every person, business and organisation can play a positive, active role in helping us get there.
We’re working together to share practical ways to make positive changes and learn from and help each other.
Our ambition is to reach the goal of net zero – with a neutral balance of greenhouse gas emissions – by 2030.
Let’s come together to make Waterloo and South Bank a place that sustains us with clean air and energy, space for nature to flourish, and greener ways of living and working.
Our actions
From creating more efficient ways of using energy to reducing the amount of waste we produce, it’s important to focus on the things we can all do together to help improve the local environment.
We’re working with people and organisations around the neighbourhood to help us decide what these are, build them into our plan, and then share practical steps we can all take in our day-to-day lives to help secure a better, more sustainable future for everyone.
Our goals
Our four steps towards a fairer and greener neighbourhood
Clean energy and efficient buildings
Improving the efficiency of buildings and shifting local energy supply towards renewable and smart systems that reduce energy use, replace fossil fuel heating, and cut emissions.
Improving air quality
Reducing air pollution by supporting greener travel, encouraging walking, wheeling and cycling, and cutting pollution from deliveries and servicing.
Building greater resilience to climate change
Making streets and green spaces better able to cope with heat and heavy rainfall, improving health, supporting wildlife, and strengthening the neighbourhood.
Reducing waste and consumption
Increasing reuse and recycling, reducing the amount of waste
produced, and cutting the use of resources where possible.
