Community visioning for a resilient future along the South Bank

We’re excited to share with you Reimagining the River Thames: community visioning for a resilient future along the South Bank. This draws together the insights shared by over 70 local stakeholders – residents, landowners, community groups and partners – reimagining a clean, accessible and climate resilient river.

These aspirations were shared at an event co-hosted with the Environment Agency, St John’s Waterloo, and Thames Estuary Partnership exploring the future of the Thames along the South Bank in the context of the need to raise local flood defences by 2050.

Rather than viewing this solely as an infrastructure challenge, the event explored how it could become an opportunity to reimagine our relationship with the river and the riverside between Vauxhall Bridge and London Bridge. In doing so the ideas shared provide a useful picture of what the local community values and the direction of travel many would like to see for the river and riverside.

This report is already being used in discussions with decision makers. It is also being fed into strategic processes like upcoming riverside strategies, local plans and the Thames Strategy London Central alongside shaping community-level next steps through South Bank & Waterloo Sustains Us.
