Join us in Reimagining the River on 21 May
Where: St Johns Waterloo, 73 Waterloo Road
When: 9am - 12.30pm Thursday 21 May
Alongside St Johns, Thames Estuary Partnership and the Environment Agency we are hosting a free half-day event bringing together local residents, landowners, stakeholders and community to think about the future of the Thames along the South Bank, particularly in light of the need to raise flood defences throughout the estuary in response to rising sea levels. This could require some stretches of our river wall to be raised by about half a meter by 2050, which may impact our connection to the river as well as future developments on the riverside.
Joined by experts from the Environment Agency, Thames Estuary Partnership, Southwark Council and Lambeth Council, we will be exploring how we transform this infrastructure challenge into an opportunity to think creatively about the future of our river.
Thoughts and ideas shared at the event will help inform current and upcoming strategic planning by the Thames Estuary Partnership, Southwark Council and Lambeth Council.
Contributing to the discussion, we will be hearing from:
- David Sweetland of A London Inheritance blog, providing an introduction to the historical context of the South Bank riverfront
- The Environment Agency, Thames Estuary Partnership and Local Authorities, who will share updates on riverside plans and policies
- Ole Schrøder of Third Nature Architects, sharing inspiring river regeneration examples from cities internationally
- You! This session is a chance to discuss and contribute your priorities and values in relation to the River Thames, so we can help shape a vision for its future that reflects the needs of our local community.
Spaces are limited so please do register below to reserve your spot.
