Join Our Community Walk to Imagine a Greener Waterloo East

News   |   Dec 2025

We are inviting residents, businesses and community partners to join us for a Waterloo East Community Walkabout on Wednesday 10 December 2025, from 10.00 to 11.30am. We will meet outside Costa Coffee, 42–48 The Cut, London SE1 8LP.

The walkabout is the first step in shaping plans to make Waterloo East greener, healthier and better prepared for the heavier rainfall and surface water flooding linked to climate change. By working together, we can create streets that manage rainwater naturally, support wildlife and feel more welcoming for everyone who uses them.

Help shape a greener and more CLimate resilient neighbourhood

During the walk, we will explore streets including Cons Street, Greet Street, Windmill Walk and the wider area. Participants will be able to share what they value locally and what kinds of greening or public realm improvements they would like to see. All feedback will help guide early design work.

The walk will be step free and suitable for all mobility levels. If you cannot attend in person, you can still share your thoughts using the contact form below.

What the project will do

South Bank and Waterloo Sustains Us has appointed landscape architects Turkington Martin to explore opportunities for new nature focused features that can help reduce flood risk and bring more planting to Waterloo East. The project will seek to use of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), which help rainwater soak into the ground rather than overwhelming drains. These may include rain gardens, tree pits or planted areas that support cleaner and greener streets.

Ideas from this work will be shared with the community in early 2026. Any future proposals will go through full public consultation, and no changes will be made without the involvement of residents and local businesses.

Hercules Road Greening installed in 2025.
