Lambeth Palace – A vision of how historic buildings can be reimagined for a sustainable future
Lambeth Palace, the 800-year-old London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, is undergoing a significant sustainability-focused refurbishment. The project addresses challenges common to older buildings, such as outdated heating systems and poor insulation.
Key sustainability innovations include installing modern heat pumps and introducing a ‘fabric first’ approach to improve insulation and reduce carbon emissions. Alongside building a new Library and Archive powered partly by solar panels the Palace maintains a biodiverse garden supporting local wildlife.
