Beach Clean & Sketching Workshop

Register below to reimagine a cleaner river
Where: Meeting at Gabriels Wharf, SE1 9PP
When: 9.30am – 1.00pm, Thursday 29th October 2026
Help protect our local river banks and the wildlife that call it home.
Join us for a hands-on beach clean of the Thames foreshore with Recorra to help remove litter from the river’s edge. Afterwards, we’ll get creative with local artist, Alice Angus from Topolski Studio, in a drawing workshop inspired by the shared experience, the items collected, and our hopes for a cleaner future for the river.
We will explore our beach finds, hopes, stories and experiences in drawings, collage, sketches and words capturing our experiences and hopes for the Thames and its future. Artworks will be exhibited locally later in the year.
All welcome, no experience of drawing necessary. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes that do not have open toes. Gloves, litter pickers, and all equipment for both the clean-up and creative workshop will be provided.
This workshop follows on from Reimagining the River held in May where local stakeholders explored the future of the Thames in the context of the need to raise local flood defences by 2050. A key aspiration shared at this forum was the ambition for a significantly cleaner river. We look forward to exploring this further with you through this hands-on workshop.
Alice Angus is currently Artist in Residence at Topolski Studio in Waterloo where she is hosting “A Year of Fearless Drawing” creating opportunities for people to come together through sketching, mark making and drawing.
